In the 2 rows in A, candidate digit 8 can appear only at the four intersections with the 2 columns in B or at candidate digit 8 marked C. If candidate digit 8 marked C is true, digit 8 cannot occupy the position marked × in the same block. If candidate digit 8 marked C is false, digit 8 is in one of the 2 columns in B in each row in A. Because the two 8s in the 2 rows in A cannot occupy the same column, one is in each of the 2 columns in B. In this case too, digit 8 cannot occupy the position marked × in the 2 columns in B. In either case, candidate digit 8 marked × can be removed.
