In the 3 columns in A, candidate digit 1 can appear only in the overlaps with the 3 rows in B or at candidate digit 1 marked C. If candidate digit 1 marked C is true, candidate digit 1 marked × that shares its row, column, or block is false. If candidate digit 1 marked C is false, candidate digit 1 in the 3 columns in A is confined to the overlaps with the 3 rows in B. In that case, one candidate digit 1 is true in each column in A. Because two 1s cannot share the same row in B, one candidate digit 1 is also true in each row in B. In this case too, candidate digit 1 marked × in the 3 rows in B is false. In either case, candidate digit 1 marked × can be removed.
